Access Control for your Business

What is access control and why is it something you need for your business? Access control is the best and most efficient way to control employee entry points because it gives employers the control to manage permissions and entry access for individuals using a browser-based system and individual key fobs or security cards.

In the not-so-distant past, employees gained access to their jobs with traditional keys or general codes or were forced to time their arrival with the one person who was given a key.  Those systems worked fine when business was going along as usual, but every time an employee left their job or was fired, it created a lot of work for both the employer and other employees. It would only take the changing status of one employee to begin the process of changing locks, reissuing keys and/or codes.  This could be a costly and confusing process as each employee would then be affected.

Technology now allows employers to grant and revoke access for their employees individually. If someone leaves the company for any given reason, their access could be singularly revoked, making their fob/key card ineffective. Better yet, this could be accomplished with a quick database entry. Additionally, for roles within the company that have different permissions, access control allows you to specify which employees can go where in the building. For example, payroll would have sole access to doors that house things like petty cash, the company safe or blank company checks, while HR would have permission to access file rooms with sensitive employee information.  Executive office access could be limited to executive staff only and IT would have the power to secure expensive equipment when they are not on site. You can manage who comes in, where they can go specifically, and you can also define when people come into the business by setting predetermined schedules for certain people. This means you can restrict who is permitted to enter after hours or set up a schedule for a cleaning service or weekend employees. This not only protects you but also gives your employees peace of mind to know that only necessary employees would be onsite.

At the forefront of every business owner’s mind is the safety of their employees and the protection of their business. Never before has a system allowed this much seamless control within the four walls of business. Access control ensures that only those permitted to be in your offices or warehouses are there, it eliminates the hassle of reissuing access instructions or keys, and it protects one of your greatest assets…your employees.
