Along with the beauty and warmth of Spring comes security challenges for your business. Yes, something as simple as the changing of a season can impact the security of your business, employees and customers. It’s important to review the unique security challenges the warmer months and give your security system a spring clean of it’s own.
Temperature and Weather Changes
Give the outdoor areas of your business a thorough once over. As people move outdoors, it’s important to make sure your lighting, security and outdoor cameras are working appropriately. Things like cleaning and repositioning cameras that may have shifted during the winter months, as well as, cutting back limbs and leaves and that may grow to obscure the view will help ensure that your outdoor area is just as safe as your indoor area. Please review weather emergency plans for heat, storms and other natural disasters. Make a point to address security plans for specific weather conditions unique to Spring (i.e. violent thunderstorms, excessive heat, etc.).
Staff and Time Changes
Make sure your security timers are adjusted for daylight savings and/or any adjustments in your business hours that change in Spring. Maybe you are open longer in the Spring and Summer months. For this and any other changes, your security schedules and anything that reflect certain times of the day should be reviewed and update to prevent any lapse in security coverage and prevent false alarms. Examine staff security clearance and revoke access to any employee no longer with the business. Create shorter term security clearance for seasonal/summer employees.
Customer Habit Changes
Spring can signal an increase of foot traffic. If your business is in a tourist area, you may see a sharp increase in foot traffic. How does your security system hold up to increased customer presence? Are you able to implement thorough theft prevention protocol? How do you manage crowds and staff for peak hours? You may want to increase surveillance equipment to cover more areas of the store as your customer presence increases.
With a few extra steps, you can confidently shift your business security from winter coverage to Spring coverage. Take time or consult and expert that can help develop increased security measures that meet your needs during the warmer months.
